In summary: rude owner, expensive, no menu, extortionate prices for food served, slow service, small portions, average or below average quality of food, stale bread mixed with fresh I will stay clear of this place. michelin stars but completely unwarranted! To celebrate Mother's day in italy I treated my family to a meal out. Unfortunately we went to Porta Nova in Ostuni! First of all, we reserved asking for the terrace with the view. When we arrived they told us the terrace was closed and put us in a room with 2 tables and a party of 15 at the other table. We were 7 of which 1 vegetarian. I asked the owner what options were available for vegetarians and she looked at me as if I were alien. She offered me mozzarella (which you can get anywhere in Italy!!!) and pasta with tomatoes. Both incredibly basic and simple options. As this was a special meal I asked if they had anything else to offer. She replied she could make me pasta with a cheese triangle ( a meal that is normally cooked for babies in italian homes)! I was not impressed. She then served me some boiled pasta! Just boiled with no sauce at all, only some parmesan to sprinkle on top and charged me Euro 30 for this pasta (by the way there were 7 pieces of pasta in my dish). The rest of the party had starters and a main (4 shared a fish, 1 meat and 2 had boiled pasta). The portions were tiny and the food was nothing special. All served on enormous dishes with small holes in the centre. The service was slow. We arrived at 1:30pm and left at 4pm! Then the bill arrived for the equivalent of £300. This included starters for 6 consisting of 1 tiny potato rosti and some wheat salad totalling £110. I was fuming but did not want to complain as I was treating my mum and family and did not want to spoil it for them even further than the restaurant already had.
